Smash burgers are a fun and tasty twist on the classic burger. They differ from regular burgers mainly in how you cook them. You form a loose ball of ground beef and smash it flat on a hot griddle. This process gives them a crispy crust and juicy inside.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)

4 slices of sharp cheddar cheese

4 burger buns, toasted

1/2 cup dill pickles, sliced

1/2 cup red onion, thinly sliced

1/4 cup mayonnaise

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: Fresh lettuce and tomato slices for topping

Instructions

Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined. Set aside.

Shape the Patties: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 ounces each) and roll them into loose balls—do not compact them too tightly.

Heat the Griddle or Skillet: Preheat a large, non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. You want it hot enough to sear the burgers.

Smash the Patties: Once the skillet is hot, place a ball of beef in the center and use a spatula or heavy skillet to smash it down into a thin patty (about 1/4 inch thick). Season generously with salt and pepper.

Cook the Patties: Allow the patties to cook for about 2-3 minutes until crispy and browned on the bottom.

Add Cheese: Flip the patties and immediately place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each one. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

Toast the Buns: While the burgers are cooking, place the toasted buns face down on the griddle for about 1-2 minutes until slightly crispy.

Assemble the Burgers: Spread a spoonful of the special sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Add a cheeseburger patty, top with dill pickles, red onions, and optional toppings such as lettuce and tomato. Finish with the top bun.

Serve: Serve the smash burgers hot with your favorite fries or potato chips. Enjoy!
