Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, pressed and cubed

3 tablespoons honey

3 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)

1 green onion, finely chopped (for garnish)

1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

Cooked jasmine rice or quinoa (for serving)

Instructions

Begin by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy skillet on top for about 15-20 minutes.

Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes and set aside.

In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil to create a marinade.

Place the cubed tofu in a large bowl and pour the marinade over it. Gently toss to coat the tofu evenly. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes (or up to 1 hour in the refrigerator for more flavor).

After marinating, sprinkle the cornstarch over the tofu cubes. Toss again to ensure each piece is thoroughly coated. This step will help create a crispy texture when frying.

Heat the vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the tofu cubes in a single layer, ensuring they aren’t overcrowded.

Fry the tofu for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. You may need to do this in batches depending on the size of your pan.

Once the tofu is cooked, pour the remaining marinade into the skillet and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and coat the tofu.

Remove from heat, and garnish with green onion and sesame seeds.

Serve the honey garlic tofu over a bed of cooked jasmine rice or quinoa for a complete meal.
