Ingredients

1 loaf of day-old brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons vanilla extract

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg

Pinch of salt

1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)

1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Butter for greasing the baking dish

Maple syrup for serving

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Add the bread cubes to the egg mixture, making sure all pieces are coated. Gently fold in the blueberries and chopped pecans if using.

Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and press down lightly to compact the bread.

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight) to allow the bread to soak up the custard.

Remove the plastic wrap and bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and set.

Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with a drizzle of maple syrup.

                  - Presentation Tips: Serve directly from the baking dish, dust with powdered sugar, and garnish with additional blueberries and pecans. Offer warm maple syrup on the side for drizzling.
